Post by FranosAny feedback from the What's New with JBuilder? session at JavaOne ?
I didn't go myself, but one of my co-workers did.
Sun is renaming Java 1.5 to 5.0. There was a big attempt by Sun to say
they're still
around and will be around, despite Wall Street analysts and others (e.g.
Robert X. Cringely)
saying they'll be going bankrupt.
On technical matters, I just talked about one that might be of interest.
For years, Sun has been saying they won't add features to JTable because
that would infringe on third party developers. They seem to be abandoning
that line and actually are making plans to improve JTable. It could use
lots of work
One other anecdote was Scott McNeally saying that he spoke with Bill Gates
and Bill Gates remarked that at some point in the future Sun and Microsoft
should unify the CLR (.NET) with the JVM, so you could run both Java
and .NET code on the same virtual machine. Wouldn't that be dandy?
My friend really liked the Borland party. Apparently they gave away a
guitar as a prize.
Wish I had been there, alas I'll still have Borcon in the fall.
