I am a bit baffled that there does not seem to be a free edition of JBuilder
2007,
(http://www.borland.com/resources/en/pdf/products/jbuilder/jbuilder_faq.pdf)
as there currently exists a very useable free version of BDS 2006 and there
always have been free version of previous editions of JBuilder. I am
certainly no supporter of Eclipse, (dentally put!) and I would have liked to
get started with a free version. On top of that, I wonder if the Eclipse
community is willing to pay for such an "add-in".

JBuilder 2007 is built on the Eclipse platform. Eclipse is free.
JB2007 is focusing on the Enterprise features, so if you take JB2007 and
remove all the stuff that would be excluded from the typical
Foundation/Personal version, I don't think you're left with much.

I guess the one thing I can think of off the top of my head that would
make sense in a free version is the JBuilder project import. I wonder
if CodeGear can be convinced to make that available as a free plugin
through an Eclipse update site. That would probably make a lot of sense.
